Growth Mindset Friday – Surviving the Dip

October 8, 2021 By Jimelle Carlson

This week’s Growth Mindset classroom discussion was about surviving “the dip.”

How many times in life have you gotten all excited about a new goal you have set for yourself – to lose weight, learn how to play an instrument or sport, learn a new language, to exercise more, to change a bad habit – only to find that a few days, weeks, or months into the process, you get so discouraged that you give up? We’ve all been there!

In order to reach our goals, it is very helpful to plan ahead for how we will respond when we hit “the dip” (the discouraging phase when most people give up). The words we tell ourselves, and how we respond to those words, will determine if we will, or will not, reach our goals.
