This week’s growth mindset quote is by Tom Brady…
“To be successful at anything, the truth is you don’t have to be special. You have to be what most people are not – consistent, determined, and willing to work for it. No shortcuts.”
There is a famous book called “Chicken Soup for the Soul” that most people have heard of or read. The book has been translated into 43 languages, published in over 100 countries, and more than 500 million copies have been sold worldwide. That’s a big deal!
What is more impressive to me than the success of the book is that for a year after the author, Jack Canfield, wrote it, his book was rejected by over 144 publishers. That means that after many months (maybe years) of pouring his heart into writing the book, Jack’s work was rejected by experts in the publishing industry an average of 12 times a month – that’s 3 to 4 times each week – for an entire year!
How many times in life have you mustered up the energy and will power to pursue a goal, only to bail on the goal after it started to feel too hard to achieve? If we don’t achieve what we’re pursuing the first, or second, or third time we try, we have a tendency to assume that we must not be good enough, or smart enough, or talented enough, or maybe we’re just not meant to achieve that goal.
Some of the greatest businesses, inventions, and accomplishments have been made by ordinary people, just like you and me, who simply refused to give up. I know it doesn’t feel good, but the fact is, failure and rejection are part of the process of achieving our goals. There are no shortcuts to greatness.
Don’t give up!
